Codecracker 2.0 UP and running

Codecracker, the online judge of our college designed and developed by GLUG last year is all set again for a new round. The pattern is changed a little bit. This time we have six questions, two easy, two medium and two difficult. It is scheduled on Feb 3, 2009 from 10 P.M. to 12 P.M. IST.

The software that we used for the judge has now been ported to Python. I and Rajat did the work in three days. I did most of the testing work while he did the coding part. I had little knowledge of Python which I had learnt during the holidays. Rajat is a fantastic coder I must admit. He writes codes perfectly. Well since we had the whole logic that we had used in the previous year so it was not that difficult.

Today I uploaded it to our the server. The server had Python 2.4.4 but we had written and tested on Python 2.6 and it started throwing exceptions . So I decided to use my own computer to run the backend python program. Since we had made provisions for such a distributed thing in our code so it was not at all difficult to do this.

Day after tomorrow is a big day. We have a local contest in our college. This will really test the software. I hope everything works fine!

You can also participate in the event. Just go to the Codecracker arena .

Any constructive suggestion or crtiticism is welcome. The project page is http://code.google.com/p/ccnitdgp/ . This page currently has the source of the previous year codecracker. We will upload the new source soon.

hack week at college

I think of holding a small hack week kind of thing at my college on GNU/Linux and FOSS where people arent serious about FOSS. This can help us create the hacking culture in our college.

I have thought of opendchub the hub software for Direct Connect client which we use for file sharing in our college because the source code is very small and it has a lot of scope for development and also it is usable.

If you have any opinion about any such sofware which does not have very big source code please share with me.

good bye 2008

Another year comes to an end. But 2008 was very important to me in many sense. For the first time I started playing around with real sofwares. To begin with Debayan started GLUG SDU (which is now totally dead) and we started to hack some softwares. First one was linuxdcpp (the linux alternate to Apexdc++). Though I did not succeed in doing anything. But I enjoyed a lot. Then came the Google Summer of Code for whcih I applied without thinking much about a proper multithread download manager for Gnome. I must admit that I got four five responses to which I had nothing to answer, they wanted me to hang on and think. But I had absolutely no idea what to tell them. Then it passed by. Then onwards I was very much determined to work on open source softwares.

Then in summer vacation I started to work on Evolution in which i have fixed a bug (my only achievement till date). Then i participated in TGMC to learn some web designing. Apparently I learned J2EE, UML, AJAX a little bit of everything. Good experience.

And thus it ended. An eventful year for me. So i quote it everywhere, my nick on IRC is roshan08 my email id is also  singh.roshan08@gmail.com. :)

Hope to do more interesting works this year.
